Bangladesh Bank Prize Bond.

Bangladesh Bank Prize Bond is an initiative of the Government of Bangladesh to spread saving tendency to all segments of people and mobilize domestic resources along with this to provide incentives to the small savers. Prize Bond was first introduced by the Bangladesh government in 1974. Prize bonds are in fact government debt collected from the people and on behalf of the government, Bangladesh Bank is responsible for the entire management of the scheme.

Types of Denomination of Bangladesh Bank Prize Bond:

01. The first issue of prize bond was of 10-taka denomination, which was introduced in June 1974.
02. The second issue of prize bond introduced in 1985 was of 50-taka denomination.
03. The third and ongoing issue of prize bond of 100-taka denomination was introduced on 2 July 1995.

Where to purchase Prize Bond?

Anyone can purchase the bonds from the offices of Bangladesh Bank, branches of the authorized commercial and specialized banks, National Saving Bureau and the post offices.

Prizes and Prize Value of Prize Bond:

Prize draws of this series are held on three months basis. Presently, for 100/- denominations there are 67 series existed in our country. These are;

Each prize is paid to 46 general numbers of each series. the prizes are:
First prize, Tk 6,00,000 (one for each series), second prize, Tk 3,25,000 (one for each series); third prize, Tk 100,000 (two prizes for each series); fourth prize, Tk 50,000 (two prizes for each series); and fifth prize, Tk 10,000 (forty prizes for each series).

How to claim the prize of Prize Bond?

The winner of the prize bond has to apply for Prize money with the prescribed form (Form PB-23) to any the offices of Bangladesh Bank, branches of the authorized commercial and specialized banks, National Saving Bureau and the post offices along with the main copy of the prize bond. After claiming the prize money, you can get your winning amount within two months in your mentioned bank account through Pay Order.

According to Income Tax Ordinance-1984, Section-55, the government levied 20% income tax on the prize money.  

Validity for Claiming Prize money:

The claims for prizes can be lodged within two years after the draw. After validity prize amount is deposited into the government account.

01. How many times draw of prize bond happen in a year?

Four times in a year. These are; 31 January, 30 April, 31 July and 31 October. If the mentioned days are Government holiday draw will happen in next working day.

02. How many denominations of prize bonds are in the market?

Presently only 100/- prize bonds existed in the market.

03. How many prizes are given in each series?

46 prizes are given in each series.

04. Is the winning amount of prize bond given in cash?

No. After claiming prize money, you can get your winning amount within two months in your mentioned bank account through Pay Order.

05. Do Prize Bonds expire?

After draw one can claim for prize MONEY WITHIN 02(Two) years. After two years prize amount will be deposited into the government account.
